Swearing on the Koran.. huh?

Believe it or not, newly elected congressman Keith Ellison has rejected swearing on the Bible in his swearing in ceremony. Remind me again what country he was elected in? Do we not require all public servants and people testifying in court to swear on the Bible? Hello folks - our very foundation and culture are under a serious attack that this is even up for discussion.

Oh and by the way, Keith Ellison used to work for the extremist Muslim asshat Louis Farrakhan as an ACOLYTE. And now he has been elected to our government? I wonder if the voters knew that when they were voting for him. More info here

Rep. Virgil H. Goode Jr. (R-Va.) is coming under sharp criticism for lashing out against the decision by Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), who will become the first Muslim member of Congress next month, to use the Koran during a swearing-in ceremony.

In a recent letter to constituents, Goode, a five-term congressman from Rocky Mount, wrote that he does "not subscribe to using the Koran in any way" and added: "The Muslim Representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of that district and if American citizens don't wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration, there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran."

The Council on American-Islamic Relations condemned Goode's remarks and called on him to apologize. [HUH???? How about you get the FLOCK out of our country asshole]

"Congressman Goode's ignorant and divisive statements are an affront to Muslims in his district and to Americans of all faiths who believe in our nation's longstanding traditions of religious tolerance and diversity," said Nihad Awad, executive director of the council.

Goode wrote the letter to constituents who had e-mailed him with concerns about Ellison using the Koran, he said in a written response to questions from The Washington Post. That letter was obtained by the C-Ville Weekly, a Charlottesville newspaper, and posted on its Web site.

Comments:
That you should even consider it an attack is a sad statement on the separation of church and state. No we don't require anyone to swear on a bible it is merely a convention that we do so. Granted our forefathers were all christian and so the bible was used. Could have been Poor richards almanac for all it matters. It is the oath that matters not the piece of paper it is taken on.

What is under attack is our CUSTOMS. Our country was founded on Christian principles, one Nation under God. We swear politicians in with the Bible because of that foundation and for some politician to come and say I don't want to do it that way is an ATTACK on our customs and our culture.. YES. Not that swearing on the Bible means ANYTHING to our politicians.

Separation of church and state does not encompass swearing on the Bible.. sorry.. but it was created to keep the Church from butting into politics which it IS doing all the time in this day and age and that is very wrong, I don't care what denomination it is.
